Nokia 3310 vs iPhone 6 vs OnePlus One Comparison

By Rich W Woods

People often ask me what phone they should purchase. The first question I ask is what is important to them. After all, people debate all the time on what phone is better. People go on and on about wanting better battery life or a better camera. Sometimes you’ll see a phone with great battery life and a great camera and people say “Yea, but for the price…”.

I did a comparison of the Nokia 3310 with the iPhone 6. In this video, I also compare it to the HTC One M8, OnePlus One, and the Nokia Lumia Icon.

Nokia Lumia 735 Review: It Reminds me of an iPhone

By Rich W Woods

I have been spending the last couple weeks with the Nokia Lumia 735. I really have to say, Microsoft really knocked it out of the park on the mid-range with this one. Well, to be fair, they knocked it out of the park on the mid-range with the Lumia 830 as well.

The first time I picked up the iPhone 6, it just felt unreal. It was so light and thin and just comfortable to hold. The Nokia Lumia 735 was the first phone since then that I have had that same feeling. It’s unrealistically light. Another thing that I love about the design of the Nokia Lumia 735 is that they used the design of the Nokia Lumia 920.

Nokia Lumia 830 Review: An Affordable Flagship

By Rich W Woods

On September 5, 2014, Nokia announced their first ever affordable flagship, the Nokia Lumia 830. To say the least, I was skeptical. After all, it uses a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400, the same as the Nokia Lumia 635 and the same strength as the Nokia Lumia 530. If you don’t know about Snapdragon processors, the Snapdragon 400 is the low end of the mid-range. Think of it as Snapdragon 200 as low end, Snapdragon 400 series as low end of mid-range, Snapdragon 600 series as high end of mid-range, and Snapdragon 800 series as flagship.

Two months after Nokia announced the device, AT&T announced that they would sell it starting November 7 at $99 on contract and $449 without a contract. By looking at the specs, I would have priced it at $299. For an affordable flagship, I would have expected at least a Snapdragon 600. I was skeptical. Of course, the devices comes with a free Fitbit, which subsidizes that extra cost.

Treasure Tags: Another Innovation from Nokia

By Rich W Woods

Back in July, Nokia released a clever little product called the Treasure Tag. When they mailed me the Microsoft Screen Sharing Accessory to review, they threw in a Treasure Tag as well and I was so impressed with the little gadget, I wanted to do a write-up of it.

Let’s start with what a Treasure Tag is. A Treasure Tag is a little Bluetooth square that pairs with your phone. It comes with two cases: one with a strap and one without.

Nokia Lumia 1320 Review: Best in its Class

By Rich W Woods

There are tons of different kinds of phones out there. First, there’s the operating system. There is Windows Phone, Android, and iOS. Then, there is the quality. There are low end phones, mid-range phones, and high end phones, and each one comes in each operating system. Then there are mini phones, regular sized phones, and phablets.

As far as budget Windows Phone phablets go, the Nokia Lumia 1320 is best in its class. Obviously, it’s the only one in its class; however, there are very few budget fabulist that exist overall. A lot of credit can be given to Nokia for making a sister to the Nokia Lumia 1520 that is a bit more affordable.

Nokia Lumia 635 Review: A Whole Lot of Bang for your Buck

By Rich W Woods

The Nokia Lumia 635 was released back in June 2014 and I’ll be honest. I overlooked it. Last weekend, the Nokia Lumia 530 was released in the United States on Cricket and T-Mobile. Unfortunately, the Lumia 530 looked like something that was made for emerging markets. It has 4 GB storage, a Snapdragon 200, and a 5 MP camera that can’t focus.

The Nokia Lumia 530 really isn’t a fair successor to the Nokia Lumia 520, which had that 5 MP camera but it had the ability to focus. That’s when the Nokia Lumia 635 caught my eye.

Nokia Lumia 530 Review: A Budget Phone for those on a Budget

By Rich W Woods

The best selling phone in the history of Windows Phone is the Nokia Lumia 520. The Nokia Lumia 530 is meant to be a successor to the Lumia 520. While it was released internationally in August, it wasn’t released in the United States until last week.

The Nokia Lumia 530 is a phone that is clearly designed to scrape the bottom of the barrel. This is not a negative thing. After all, if all you need is a phone that makes calls, sends messages, and you can check Facebook, Twitter, and your bank account from, the Nokia Lumia 530 might be for you.

Nokia Lumia 930 Review

By Rich W Woods

Nokia has been kind enough to give me the opportunity to use the Nokia Lumia 930 for the last two weeks and this is a phone that I have fell absolutely in love with. The design is stunningly beautiful but it was the camera that I fell in love with.

Having used a Nokia Lumia 1020 as my personal phone for about eight months, I thought that the camera on the Nokia Lumia 930 is even better. While the Nokia Lumia 1020 has more megapixels, the Lumia 930 is much faster making camera use a delight.

Nokia Lumia 930 Specs

The Nokia Lumia 930 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. It has a 5″ 1080p AMOLED display which makes Windows Phone 8.1 bright and colorful. It only has a 32 GB option and has 2 GB RAM. There is no SD card expansion; however, users can easily set OneDrive to automatically backup photos giving the user an extra 15 GB or storage (1 TB for Office 365 subscribers).

The rear camera is 20 MP and the front camera is 1.2 MP which is standard although more and more OEMs are focusing on the front facing camera these days. For example, if you take more selfies than regular photos, you may be better off with a Nokia Lumia 730, Lumia 735, HTC One M8 for Windows, HTC One M8, or OnePlus One which use 5 MP front cameras. In fact, the HTC Desire 820 uses the first 8 MP front facing camera (it is also the first 64 bit Android phone).

The Nokia Lumia 930 also offers wireless charging. This is a great feature if you like to use wireless charging, but it makes the phone heavier (167 g). Personally, I prefer the way they did the Lumia 1020 which didn’t support wireless charging but Nokia offered a case that could be used to make it support wireless charging.

HTC One M8 for Windows vs Nokia Lumia Icon: Which is the best Verizon Windows Phone? Part 3 Final Comparison

By Rich W Woods

Verizon has always had a limited selection of Windows Phones. When Windows Phone 8 launched, they got the HTC 8X and the Nokia Lumia 822, both mid-range phones. Later, they got the Nokia Lumia 928 after the former two had left the shelves. The Lumia 928 was a variant of the Lumia 920 that came out 8 months after AT&T got the 920.

Contrary to what Nokia, HTC, or Verizon would have you believe at the time, both the HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 928 were mid-range phones. In fact, all of the original “flagship” Windows Phone 8 phones were mid-range. They used dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processors. They were slow and frustrating to use.

Then came the Nokia Lumia Icon, a beautifully designed Nokia Lumia that packed a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 20 MP camera, and a 5″ 1080p display.

Nokia Lumia 1520: A User Review

By Rich W Woods

I’ve been using a Nokia Lumia 1520 for almost two weeks now. Having a 6″ screen, I was shocked at how much I fell in love with this phone.

Nokia Lumia 1520: The Screen

The Nokia Lumia 1520 has a 6″ AMOLED screen. Being an AMOLED screen, it looks much better than an LCD screen. On an AMOLED screen, certain pixels can actually be turned off making black colors a true black. Samsung also uses AMOLED screens on their phones making this a similar phone to the Galaxy Note 3, especially since they both have large screens and Snapdragon 800 processors.
