Nokia Lumia 530 vs Microsoft Lumia 435 Comparison

By Rich W Woods

The Nokia Lumia 520 was the best selling Windows Phone in the history of the platform. The Lumia 530 was slated to be the successor to the Lumia 520; however, it didn’t deliver on the value that the Lumia 520 delivered. The camera has a fixed focus, it has half the storage, it’s thicker, heavier, it only records 480p video, and worst of all, it doesn’t have the physical camera button. The one improvement in the Lumia 530 was that they used a quad core processor, a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 to be exact, to replace the 1 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 Plus in the Lumia 520.

Then came the Microsoft Lumia 435. The Microsoft Lumia 435 uses a 2 MP fixed focus camera and a dual core Snapdragon 200 processor. When it came out, I said a lot of “If the Lumia 530 wasn’t quite low end enough for you”. When Microsoft asked me to review it, I was very skeptical; however, over the last five days, the Microsoft Lumia 435 has really shown me just how wrong I was.

I compared the Nokia Lumia 520 to the Microsoft Lumia 435 and while the Nokia Lumia 520 had the far superior camera, the Microsoft Lumia 435 was the better phone. It has 1 GB of RAM, which is a very useful feature.

Don’t be fooled. Despite the fact that one is made by Nokia and one Microsoft, they are the same line of phones. Ever since Microsoft acquired Nokia’s devices and services division, the Microsoft Lumia 535 is the first device where Microsoft dropped the Nokia brand.

On the other hand, the Nokia Lumia 530 was the original successor to the Nokia Lumia 520. Based on their normal numbering strategy, one would assume that the Lumia 535 would be very similar to the 530. It is not. While having a lower resolution display, it has a 5 MP front camera and a flash on the rear camera. Let’s take a look.

Nokia Lumia 530 vs HTC One M8 Camera Comparison

On Sunday, Microsoft finally released the Nokia Lumia 530 to the American public after being available internationally for a few weeks. The Nokia Lumia 530 is the successor to the Nokia Lumia 520, the best selling Windows Phone in the history of the platform.

The Nokia Lumia 530 is a phone that is designed to scrape the bottom of the barrel, but that is ok. It only costs $69. It uses a 5 MP camera, so it is only fair to compare it to competing cameras across the board. I thought it would be fair to start with the HTC One M8, since the HTC One M8 uses a 4.3 MP rear camera.

I’ve already compared the Nokia Lumia 530 to the Nokia Lumia 635, which is the phone that really should be considered the successor to the Nokia Lumia 520.

Microsoft has finally released the Nokia Lumia 530 to the United States yesterday on Sunday, October 5, 2014. The Nokia Lumia 520 is the successor to the Nokia Lumia 520, the best selling handset that ran Windows Phone 8.

Unfortunately, the Nokia Lumia 530 is not quite a worthy successor to the Nokia Lumia 520. The 5 MP camera can’t focus, it has 4 GB storage instead of the original 8 GB storage, and the display isn’t LCD. The Nokia Lumia 530 is a phone that is designed to scrape the bottom of the barrel where the Lumia 520 was actually something a little more usable.
