WatchOS 2 Beta 5 Walk Through

Yesterday, Apple released iOS 9 Beta 5, Xcode 7 Beta 5, and watchOS 2 Beta 5. Out of the four betas that Apple is offering, the only one that’s not available to the general public is watchOS 2.

When Apple released Beta 4, there really weren’t any new features, whether we’re talking about iOS 9, watchOS 2, Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan, or Xcode 7. This round is different. Check it out.

Hands On with WatchOS 2 Beta 4

On Tuesday this week, Apple released WatchOS 2 Beta 4. There wasn’t a whole lot that was new; however, there was a hell of a lot that got fixed. As we get closer to the public release of WatchOS 2, iOS 9, and Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan, there are going to be more and more videos like this, where there isn’t a lot of new features but there are bug fixes to show.

Have a look.

WatchOS 2 Beta 3 Release Notes

By Rich W Woods

Yesterday, Apple released WatchOS 2 Beta 3. It came alongside all of the regulars, including iOS 9, Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan, and Xcode 7. There is still no signs at all that Apple is still supporting the current Apple TV model.

As usual, I publish the release notes whenever Apple releases a new beta; however, they seem to like to wait a day or so before publishing the WatchOS 2 release notes, so here they are.

Hands On with WatchOS 2 Beta 2

By Rich W Woods

I’ve done it. I’ve taken the plunge into WatchOS 2. Just like Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan Beta 2, I do not recommend installing WatchOS 2 Beta 2 under any circumstances.

The big reason that you shouldn’t install it is that there’s no way to go back. It took an hour and a half to install on my Apple Watch and I thought it was bricked, which would have been tragic since there’s no recovery mode that will download and flash the image like there is on iPhone and Mac.

There’s also the fact that WatchOS 2 requires iOS 9. This means that not only are you stuck with WatchOS 2, you’re also stuck with iOS 9. Then there’s the fact that native apps won’t hit the App Store until this thing is public in September.

Since you shouldn’t install it, I did. Enjoy.

Here’s the Release Notes for WatchOS 2 Beta 2

By Rich W Woods

Today, Apple seeded WatchOS 2 Beta 2 to developers alongside iOS 9 Beta 2, Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan Beta 2, and Xcode 7 Beta 2. The release notes weren’t available just yet, which is why they weren’t in my original article. Of course, WatchOS 2 Beta 2 has been since pulled, but here are the release notes anyway.

Apple Pulls WatchOS 2 Beta 2

By Rich W Woods

You know, I really have to say. Microsoft takes plenty of heat for its inability to communicate. Rightfully so. They suck at it. So let’s take a look at a company that solves that problem by simply not communicating at all: Apple.

Today, Apple released Xcode 7 Beta 2, iOS 9 Beta 2, WatchOS 2 Beta 2, and Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan Beta 2. Last week, I wrote an article warning people not to install WatchOS 2 Beta at all, developer or not.

After all, there’s no way to revert back to WatchOS 1.0.1. Well, there might be but hey, Apple’s not talking. They just drop the betas on developers, assume they have the money for a spare Apple Watch, and leave it up to them

Now we have WatchOS 2 Beta 2. Well, we had WatchOS 2 Beta 2. Apple pulled it today hours after posting it, which means that it must have had some serious issues. Apple’s official statement about those issues was “”.

Of course, if you were one of the unlucky ones that got to install it, you’re stuck with it. The Apple Watch isn’t like an iPhone or a MacBook where you can simple do a recovery that will download the OS and reinstall it. Once you update, you’re updated.

Apple did release an official statement on the fact that these unlucky developers are stuck with WatchOS 2 Beta 2. Their exact words were “”.

Apple Seeds WatchOS 2 Beta 2, Still Can’t Restore

By Rich W Woods

Today, Apple seeded WatchOS 2 Beta 2. This comes alongside iOS 9 Beta 2, Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan Beta 2, and Xcode 7 Beta 2. Oddly enough, there are no release notes posted, so I can’t provide those.

There is one key thing that hasn’t changed. You still cannot install WatchOS 2 and revert back to WatchOS 1.0.1. Some speculated that Apple would provide a downgrading tool for those that installed the WatchOS 2 beta and wanted to go back. After all, there is no recovery mode like there is on an iOS or a Mac OS device that would download and flash the OS. I do not recommend WatchOS 2 Beta 2 to anyone. Even developers.

If you do wish to install WatchOS 2 Beta 2, here are the instructions:

Apple Watch Sport Review: It Won’t Get You Laid

By Rich W Woods

I bought my Apple Watch Sport the day that preorders started, as soon as they started at 3:00 AM. Even though I placed the order as soon as I could, I was told 4-6 weeks, just like anyone else that didn’t get their order in by 3:05; however, I ordered the 42 mm space gray model, so unlike everyone else, I actually had to wait 4-6 weeks for mine. Five, specifically.

Now before we get started, let’s answer the obvious question. It won’t get you laid. Remember the old days of smart phones? It was 2007-2008 if you had an iPhone and that time came again in 2009-2010 if you had an Android. Your phone was actually a conversation piece.

I was on the subway today and for the second time, I noticed someone else wearing an Apple Watch. He had the stainless steel model with the black sport band. He was holding the pole in the subway car with his left hand, which is also the arm he was wearing his Apple Watch on.

Just think about that. He was wearing it on his left arm, which means he’s right-handed, yet he was keeping his balance with his left hand anyway. While the train was in motion, I saw him pull up his watch and do something on it. Keep in mind that there is very little that the Apple Watch can do without any kind of Internet connection and there is no connection on the subway.

By this time, I thought he had noticed my Apple Watch Sport. After all, when you wear a smart watch, you want to be noticed. That’s why he was holding his balance with his left hand. It’s not because we’re showing off or because we feel we’re elite. It’s because we’re early adopters and we like talking about tech.

The point of that story is that if the reason you’re buying an Apple Watch is because you think it will be a conversation starter, it won’t be.
