Microsoft Lumia 640 XL vs iPhone 6 Comparison

By Rich W Woods

Since receiving the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL last week, the most requested comparison I’ve received is for the iPhone 6. After all, the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL has a pretty awesome camera. It stands to reason that we compare it with one of the best non-Lumia cameras on the market.

I’m not going to be able to compare benchmarks. There are really no comparable benchmark apps between Windows Phone and iOS. Maybe we can look at some battery tests a little later.

HTC One M9 vs iPhone 6 Comparison

By Rich W Woods

This should be an interesting comparison. I have been using the HTC One M9 for almost two weeks now and my time with it is almost up. I have to say, I’m incredibly impressed with it. It is a beautiful, powerful device.

Of course, when you speak of beautiful metal phones, it’s hard not to mention the iPhone, specifically the iPhone 6. The iPhone is the most coveted phone in the world and for good reason. Let’s take a deeper look at the devices.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge vs iPhone 6: Battle of the Sixes

By Rich W Woods

Yes, I know. I used the same title when I compared the Nexus 6 to the iPhone 6, but let’s fact it, it was a great title. Great enough to use it again.

The iPhone 6 (as well as its variant iPhone 6 Plus) and the Samsung Galaxy S6 (as well as its variant Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge) are the two most coveted phones on the planet, and for good reason. They’re both amazing and beautiful phones.

People often overlook how important design is to a phone. Many people often tout that they don’t care if a phone is thin and light when they buy it or that they don’t care about esthetics at all; however, I disagree. In fact, I think these people are lying to themselves altogether.

Before we go any further, I want to state why I got the Galaxy S6 Edge instead of the Galaxy S6. I hated the Galaxy Note Edge, finding it really uncomfortable to hold. Since I was told that the Galaxy S6 would change my thoughts on Samsung devices, I went with the Edge so I could try out the Edge display while still knowing the feel of the Galaxy S6. In other words, if I got the Galaxy S6 Edge, I would know what the experience of both the S6 and the S6 Edge where, but not vice versa. Because of this, there will be times when I refer to the Galaxy S6 throughout this review.

OnePlus One vs iPhone 6 Camera Comparison Part 4: CM12

By Rich W Woods

It has been a long road thus far. Way back in September, I compared the OnePlus One camera to the iPhone 6 Plus. It was before I really started doing a lot of more extensive camera comparisons, so I followed it up a few months later with a comparison of the OnePlus One and the iPhone 6.

The OnePlus One provided poor, washed out photos. Later, OnePlus pushed out an update, CM11 05Q, that promised camera improvements and delivered. I gave the OnePlus One a rematch against the iPhone 6 and the results were a lot better. A trend began. The iPhone 6 was my control group. While firmware and software continued to change on the OnePlus One, the iPhone 6 remained the same, allowing us to gauge the changes that came on the OnePlus One.

OnePlus One vs iPhone 6 Camera Comparison Part 2

By Rich W Woods

I have never compared the OnePlus One to the iPhone 6 before. Oh wait. This is the third time I’m doing it. My bad. The first was a comparison with the iPhone 6 Plus. When that comparison caught a lot of traction, people asked for more (different lighting conditions, etc.) so I compared it to the iPhone 6.

OnePlus recently pushed out an update to the OnePlus One that promised camera improvements. After comparing it to the Nokia Lumia Icon, we found that those camera improvements were significant. Historically, the photos taken with the OnePlus One tend to look washed out. Not anymore.

This leaves me with many questions, such as how it compares to other phones now. Also, how will it fare with the Google Camera app? After all, we know it has the same Sony IMX214 Exmor RS sensor that the Nexus 6 uses.

iPhone 6 vs Nokia Lumia 735 Camera Comparison

By Rich W Woods

My two weeks with the Nokia Lumia 735 will be coming to a close within a few days; however, it just wouldn’t be a round of camera comparisons if I didn’t compare it to the iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 is renowned for having one of the best smart phone cameras in the industry in both the rear and the front.

To go off topic from the camera for a moment, the Nokia Lumia 735 shares a certain feel with the iPhone 6. It has that feel where it’s just feels too light and comfortable in your hand for it to be a real phone; however, I can assure you, they are both real phones.

iPhone 6 vs Amazon Fire Phone Camera Comparison

By Rich W Woods

The iPhone 6 and the Amazon Fire Phone have very similar cameras. Now, before you start sending me emails, let me explain that. They do have different hardware; however, when it comes to smart phone cameras, software is much more important than hardware is.

Both the iOS Camera app and the Fire OS Camera app have very limited options. There are no manual settings. The thing about not allowing users to have manual settings is that the product has to be so good that it doesn’t need manual settings. The iPhone 6 does that. Here, we’ll find out if the Amazon Fire Phone can do as good.

HTC Desire 820 vs iPhone 6 Camera Comparison

By Rich W Woods

I have been using the HTC Desire 820 for about a week now and I’m pretty impressed with it. It has a great camera, super fast for 13 MP, the front facing camera is probably in the top five of all smart phones, and it’s a fast phone. I thought that it’s about time to compare it to the iPhone 6.

I am looking forward to doing this comparison because they are both great cameras and in similar ways. I wouldn’t say that the HTC Desire 820 or the iPhone 6 are the perfect smart phone cameras for professional photography, but they’re both great if you’re just going to post your photo to Facebook or Instagram.

Nexus 6 vs iPhone 6 Camera Comparison: Battle of the Sixes

By Rich W Woods

This will be the final time I use my iPhone 6 for two weeks. Oh you haven’t heard? I’m throwing my iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 in a drawer and I’m going to use the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 as my daily drivers for two weeks. It will be the first time that I have used Android for both my phone and tablet daily drivers. But I digress…

The scope of this column is to compare the Nexus 6 camera to the iPhone 6 camera. It’s the battle of the sixes. Coming into this, I was a bit nervous for the Nexus 6 camera. After all, neither the Nexus 5 nor the Moto X have particularly great cameras and the Nexus 6 is sort of a combination of the two. It certainly has the combined screen resolutions.

On the other hand, the iPhone 6 is known for its camera. It’s widely recognized as the best smart phone camera that exists. Of course, it’s not undisputed as I’m sure many of you will have disputes with that claim. I’m not even sure I agree with it. One thing is for sure, Apple does have a fantastic camera on their phone. It would be nice if I still has the iPhone 6 Plus to compare the Nexus 6 to since the iPhone 6 Plus has optical image stabilization (OIS) like the Nexus 6 does, but unfortunately review units come and go.

HTC Desire Eye vs iPhone 6 Camera Comparison

By Rich W Woods

As I continue to review the HTC Desire Eye, the camera continues to impress me. It seems to have the ultrapixel effect that comes with the HTC One M8 but without the disadvantage that comes with 4 MP resolution. The iPhone 6 is widely known as one of the best smart phone cameras out there, although some have criticized it as being oversaturated, just as HTC advertises their phones to be.

The main feature of the HTC Desire Eye is the 13 MP front facing camera, which is also the first to come with a flash. For this feature, HTC sacrificed their trademark front facing speakers. Personally, I think this is a good business move. The HTC One line of phones can continue to have the dual front facing speakers for people who listen to audio on their phone without headphones and the Desire line can be more camera focused.
