LG Lancet vs Microsoft Lumia 735: Verizon’s Two Windows Phones

Currently, Verizon sells two Windows Phones. Well, in the mid-range. They still sell the HTC One M8 for Windows. You can still find a Nokia Lumia Icon in some places, both of which are amazing phones.

But we have two brand new Windows Phones on Verizon now, the Microsoft Lumia 735 and the LG Lancet. The phones are very similar in that they use similar chipsets and have the same RAM and storage. They’re different since the Lumia 735 has a camera with better specs and the Lancet has a 64 bit processor, but we’ll get to that later.

I’m extremely excited about the LG Lancet. It’s LG’s first try at Windows Phone since Windows Phone 7 and so far, I think they’ve done a pretty good job.

Microsoft Lumia 640 XL vs LG G Flex 2 Comparison

By Rich W Woods

NOTE: I wrote this a long time ago when I was reviewing the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL. I found it in my drafts and thought I’d publish it.

You may be noticing that I’m comparing the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL to flagship devices. Actually, I started by comparing it to the Nokia Lumia 635, while piling on the Nokia Lumia 1320 and Lumia 830. The purpose of this was to show how superior the Lumia 640 XL is to its predecessors. The camera is, by all rights, a flagship camera. The next comparison was with the iPhone 6 and now, the LG G Flex 2.

The LG G Flex 2 was a camera that I just fell in love with. In fact, the LG G Flex 2 was a phone that I fell in love with. The curved display combined with the laser focused camera made up a stunning device. It’s honestly one of the best devices I’ve ever used.

Microsoft Lumia 535 vs Nokia Lumia 1020 Speed Comparison

By Rich W Woods

This video was inspired by a post on WMPowerUser regarding whether or not Microsoft is ignoring dual core phones. I commented that people need to get over it. The dual core Snapdragon S4 Plus was a decrepit, old processor even when it was the only processor that was supported by Windows Phone 8. It really says something when your next generation low end phone outperforms your last generation flagship.

Of course, I got torn apart. I pointed out that a dual core 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 Plus is far less powerful than a quad core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200. Of course, I probably would have had the same response, that it’s not all about cores and GHz. People aren’t very nice on the Internet.

It doesn’t change the facts though. Watch the Microsoft Lumia 535 outperform the Nokia Lumia 1020.

Microsoft Lumia 640 XL vs Nokia Lumia 1020 Comparison

By Rich W Woods

Yesterday, we compared the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL to the Nokia Lumia Icon. The results were surprising. While the Lumia Icon clearly beat the Lumia 640 XL in terms of performance, the Lumia 640 XL had the better camera. Now it’s time to compare the Lumia 640 XL to the legendary Nokia Lumia 1020.

I’m not expecting the Lumia 640 XL to outperform the Nokia Lumia 1020. The Nokia Lumia 1020 is widely known as the best smart phone camera ever, although Microsoft is not planning a successor. I do want to see how close it is. Also, I expect the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL to outperform the Nokia Lumia 1020 in performance tests.

Microsoft Lumia 640 XL vs Nokia Lumia Icon Comparison: (Spoiler: The 640 XL Wins)

By Rich W Woods

This is my last week with the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL. One thing that has become clear is that this is a flagship camera. In fact, there are only a few differences between the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL and a flagship device. It’s really just awesome.

This time, I want to compare the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL to the Nokia Lumia Icon, which is the flagshipiest flagship Lumia out there. While it’s clear that the Lumia Icon is a better phone with twice as much RAM and a Snapdragon 800 processor, I’m not sure which will have the better camera. We’ll get into that a bit later. First, specs.

Microsoft Lumia 640 XL vs iPhone 6 Comparison

By Rich W Woods

Since receiving the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL last week, the most requested comparison I’ve received is for the iPhone 6. After all, the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL has a pretty awesome camera. It stands to reason that we compare it with one of the best non-Lumia cameras on the market.

I’m not going to be able to compare benchmarks. There are really no comparable benchmark apps between Windows Phone and iOS. Maybe we can look at some battery tests a little later.

Nokia Lumia 635 vs Microsoft Lumia 640 XL, and the Nokia Lumia 1320 Too

By Rich W Woods

I love the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL. I have been having so much fun with it. Technically, it’s the successor to the Nokia Lumia 1320; however, we didn’t see a lot of the Lumia 1320 here in the United States. The only carrier that saw it was Cricket Wireless, a small carrier.

Needless to say, I don’t have a Lumia 1320 to compare the Lumia 640 XL to, so the next best thing is going to be the Nokia Lumia 635. Now, before I get into it, I want to point out a few things, because while I don’t have a Lumia 1320 on hand to compare it to, I have reviewed the Nokia Lumia 1320, so there are a few key points to make.

The Nokia Lumia 1320 was not a great phone. It was great at being a budget phablet; however, it was very thick, bulky, and heavy. Carrying it around in my pocket made me not want to carry it around in my pocket. It was very uncomfortable.

Microsoft Lumia 535 vs Microsoft Lumia 640 Comparison

By Rich W Woods

The Microsoft Lumia 535 was the first Lumia that was released with the Microsoft branding after Microsoft acquired Nokia’s devices and services division. The device was impressive, given how poorly received the Nokia Lumia 530 was as a successor to the Nokia Lumia 520. Adding autofocus and a flash to the 5 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera, along with 1 GB of RAM really added value to the low end of the Lumia line?

Prior to the Microsoft Lumia 535, it had appeared that the Nokia Lumia 635 was the true successor to the Lumia 520, with what seemed to be a move to lower the 5xx tier to a lower end than what it was and move the 6xx tier from the low end of the mid-range to the low end.

That changes with the Microsoft Lumia 640, a device that makes a clear mark as a strong contender in the mid-range space. Compared with each other, the Microsoft Lumia 535 and the Microsoft Lumia 640 are sure to have pros and cons. Let’s take a look at what they are.

Microsoft Lumia 640 vs Yezz Billy 4.7

By Rich W Woods

It’s been a couple weeks since I published the review of the Yezz Billy 4.7. In case you don’t remember it, it was called It Fills a Hole Left by Lumia. The Yezz Billy 4.7 sits right in between the Nokia Lumia 635 and the Nokia Lumia 735, at a price point not recognized by Microsoft with the Lumia line.

The Yezz Billy 4.7 is a stunningly beautiful phone, much like old school Nokia phones used to be. It’s super thin and light with a 4.7″ 720p display, which results in the same pixel density as flagships such as the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. It also uses an 8 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front camera.

The Microsoft Lumia 640 might be the one to fill that hole, depending on the price point it comes in at. I reached out to my Lumia contact, asking what the U.S. price is going to be for the Lumia 640, but they are tight lipped on the price. At the same time, Daniel Rubino has said that it will cost $99.99 for the T-Mobile locked model.

Microsoft Lumia 640 vs 2nd Gen Moto E Comparison

By Rich W Woods

Yesterday, I published a comparison between the Nokia Lumia 635 and the Microsoft Lumia 640, proving that the Microsoft Lumia 640 is a massive upgrade from the Nokia Lumia 635. It even changed my position on the 6xx series of Lumias from good low end phones to decent mid-range phones.

The same thing goes for the second generation Moto E. The second generation, is, like the Microsoft Lumia 640, a massive upgrade from its predecessor. The key difference here is that the Moto E made its main improvements in the processor and the Lumia 640 made its improvements everywhere else, although I should say that they both improved battery.
