LG G Flex 2 vs Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Comparison

By Rich W Woods

I know that I said that the comparison between the HTC One M9 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge was going to be the last before I wrote a review, but we have a last minute contender. On Monday, I received the LG G Flex 2 to review and I just had to get it in there.

After all, the Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G Flex 2, and HTC One M9 all came out around the same time. The LG G Flex 2 was the first device to be announced using the Snapdragon 810 processor, the HTC One M9 being the second. When I was at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, these were the three devices to check out.

HTC One M9 vs Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Comparison

By Rich W Woods

Both announced at Mobile World Congress on the same day in Barcelona, the HTC One M9 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 are undoubtedly the two most coveted Android phones in the world.

This is the first comparison that I’ve done with the HTC One M9, a device that I’m very excited about. It’s a massive upgrade from the HTC One M8. It uses a powerful Snapdragon 810 processor, 3 GB of RAM, they replaced the underpowered rear camera with a 20 MP sensor, and they moved the ultrapixel camera to the front, which is a stroke of genius. Many refer to the HTC One M9 as a minor, incremental update, but that’s only because there wasn’t a physical redesign, showing just how much appearances matter, even to the enthusiasts.

On the other hand, this will be one of the last comparisons with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, as the full review is coming soon. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has left me extremely impressed, as I’ve never come across a Samsung phone that I even liked before; however, Samsung spent the last year listening to feedback and they responded to it.

Nokia Lumia 1020 vs Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Camera Comparison

By Rich W Woods

It has been a week now since I started reviewing the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. I can tell you that it is a stunning device. It’s blazingly fast, it has amazing battery life, and the display is just stunning.

If you know me or you follow FTLoT, you know that I’ve never historically been a fan of Samsung devices. My review of the Galaxy Note 4 was called A Perversion of Innovation. My review of the Note Edge was called Samsung Makes the Note 4 Worse.

I’ve also been told that the Samsung Galaxy S6 is going to change all of that and so far, everyone has been right. The Galaxy S6 is an amazing device. Everyone is also telling me that the Galaxy S6 has a camera that is well far and beyond anything else on the market. I showed that that’s not exactly correct when I compared it to the iPhone 6, but now it’s time for the gold standard test, which is the Nokia Lumia 1020.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge vs iPhone 6: Battle of the Sixes

By Rich W Woods

Yes, I know. I used the same title when I compared the Nexus 6 to the iPhone 6, but let’s fact it, it was a great title. Great enough to use it again.

The iPhone 6 (as well as its variant iPhone 6 Plus) and the Samsung Galaxy S6 (as well as its variant Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge) are the two most coveted phones on the planet, and for good reason. They’re both amazing and beautiful phones.

People often overlook how important design is to a phone. Many people often tout that they don’t care if a phone is thin and light when they buy it or that they don’t care about esthetics at all; however, I disagree. In fact, I think these people are lying to themselves altogether.

Before we go any further, I want to state why I got the Galaxy S6 Edge instead of the Galaxy S6. I hated the Galaxy Note Edge, finding it really uncomfortable to hold. Since I was told that the Galaxy S6 would change my thoughts on Samsung devices, I went with the Edge so I could try out the Edge display while still knowing the feel of the Galaxy S6. In other words, if I got the Galaxy S6 Edge, I would know what the experience of both the S6 and the S6 Edge where, but not vice versa. Because of this, there will be times when I refer to the Galaxy S6 throughout this review.

OnePlus One vs Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Comparison

By Rich W Woods

This will be the second comparison I’ve done since I got my hands on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Now, I can imagine that a number of people from the OnePlus forums are reading this column, so you probably know that I have not historically been a fan of Samsung phones. You saw my review of the Galaxy Note 4, A Perversion of Innovation, and my review of the Galaxy Note Edge, Samsung Makes the Note 4 Worse.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, has been telling me that the Samsung Galaxy S6 is going to be the device to change all that. After having the Galaxy S6 Edge for two days now, I think they might be right.

Now those same people have told me that the Samsung Galaxy S6 has the best camera on the market as well. This is something I’m a little more skeptical about. After all, these are folks that went to their local AT&T Store and tested the camera. Honestly, you cannot get any kind of feel for a device, especially the camera, until you take it into the field, take some photos, and compare it to another camera on the same screen. I want to emphasize that it must be the same screen because the display on the Galaxy S6 is absolutely stunning, which is going to make those photos pop.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge vs Sony Xperia Z3 Compact: Comparison

By Rich W Woods

Let me say this: I have never been a fan of Samsung phones. Anyone who knows me and anyone who follows For the Love of Tech knows it. Last year, I reviewed the Galaxy Note 4 and it was titled A Perversion of Innovation. A few weeks later, I reviewed the Galaxy Note Edge, which was called Samsung Makes the Note 4 Worse.

Imagine my shock when I was absolutely delighted by the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Now, let me explain why I went with the S6 Edge. I had to choose one. I absolutely hated the Note Edge and found it uncomfortable to hold and I thought I should be able to speak on some authority about the Galaxy S6 Edge. At the same time, I’ll know what the experience from the regular Galaxy S6 is like because it’s a regular phone.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge vs Nokia Lumia Icon Camera Comparison

By Rich W Woods

This is going to be the final comparison with the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge before I write a full review of this dreadful phone. Despite the fact that it is a dreadful phone (uncomfortable to hold, features don’t work well, standard Samsung stuff), there are some really solid features of this device. That being the display and the camera.

Of course, there is one more brand that is known for their cameras. That brand is Nokia. The Pureview cameras with Carl Zeiss lenses are second to none. Here, we’ll find out if they’re second to one.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge vs Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Camera Comparison

For all of the flaws that come with the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, there are two things that it’s great at: the display and the camera. This is true of all Samsung devices. Sony is not too shabby on the camera front either with their 20.7 MP camera that they ship in their flagships.

I had wanted to do this comparison with the Sony Xperia Z3, as I’m sure there will be people to poke fun at my because I picked such a small phone to compare with such a large phone; however, this small phone packs a powerful camera.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge vs HTC Desire Eye Camera Comparison: Which is the Better Selfie Phone?

By Rich W Woods

People like to label the HTC Desire Eye as a selfie phone. The reason for this is because it has a 13 MP front facing camera with a flash. Even though it makes sense to put a flash on the front facing camera even for someone who doesn’t take selfies much and we’ve proved that resolution doesn’t matter in a camera when I compared the HTC Desire Eye to the iPhone 6, which has a 1.2 MP front camera, people insist on calling it a selfie phone.

If the HTC Desire Eye is considered a selfie phone then the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge certainly should be as well. In fact, all of the latest Samsung phones should be; however, the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge happens to be the review unit I have in my office right now. Samsung phones have a rear camera selfie feature. They allow the user to switch into Rear Cam Selfie mode, turn the camera on himself, and when the phone detects a face in the selected area, it beeps and takes a photo two seconds later.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge vs iPhone 6 Camera Comparison

Oh the Samsung vs Apple comparisons are always exciting. After all, they are the most famous of rivalries. We all know about the lawsuits between Apple and Samsung. They also happen to be the most popular smart phone manufacturers in the world.

Aside from being the two largest smart phone manufacturers in the world, they are polar opposites. Apple is the company that doesn’t include a feature in their products unless it works well and it will improve the user experience. Samsung rushes to be the first at everything, whether it will improve the user experience or not, hence the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge.

This is not to say that either have a better way of doing things. Some people want the latest new toys to play with and some people want a device that is more stable and works the way they want it to.
