On Tuesday this week, Apple released iOS 9 Beta 4. On Wednesday, they released iOS 9 Public Beta 2, which is the same build. I hopped to work and checked out all of the new features in this build. Check it out.

iOS 9 and El Capitan Public Beta 2 Now Available
Yesterday, Apple released developer beta 4 of iOS 9, Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan, and WatchOS 2. They also released the public beta of Xcode 7. Since that happened yesterday, that means that the second public beta of iOS 9 and Mac OS X 10 is now available.
If you’re already on the first public beta, all you need to do is go to Settings -> General -> Software Update. If not, you can go to Apple’s Appleseed web site and sign up and download a configuration file to your device.

iOS 9 Beta 4 Now Available
Today, Apple seeded iOS 9 Beta 4 to developers. If you’re looking for the public beta, it will probably be available tomorrow. This came alongside WatchOS 2 Beta 4, Xcode 7 Beta 4, and Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan Beta 4. There is still no sign that the third generation Apple TV will continue to be supported, as there is still no beta and it hasn’t been updated since iOS 8.3.
iOS 9 Beta 3 Walk Through
I wasn’t going to do it. When I first installed iOS 9 Beta 3, I saw the new News app and I thought, “this is the big news here”, so I made a walk through video of the News app and called it a day.
Then, I spent a bit more time with iOS 9 Beta 3 and, as it turns out, there’s quite a bit new there, so have a look.

Ever since WWDC, we’ve been hearing so much about News, Apple’s new app that comes preloaded in iOS 9. Apple is very proud of this new app and service. After all, they made a point of saying how there’s a special experience that comes with each preinstalled app. They didn’t make the same huge deal about Find My Friends, which now comes preinstalled in iOS 9.

iOS 9 Public Beta is Live!

When Apple announced iOS 9 at WWDC back in June, they promised the first public beta for iOS. We all assumed that it would come a few days after iOS 9 Beta 3, but as it turns out, it’s just one day later.
You can sign up for it at appleseed,apple.com. Just keep in mind that this is not an early release. This is a beta that’s available two months before the final release. You might want to read this before you install it.

Maybe Think Twice Before Installing the iOS 9 Public Beta?

Exactly one month and a day ago at Apple Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), Apple announced Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan, WatchOS 2, Xcode 7, the open sourcing of Swift, and of course, iOS 9. As Apple does every year, they released a developer beta; however, they did something different this year. They promised a public beta in July.
As soon as the news about iOS 9 dropped, like everyone with a developer account, I got swarmed by friends asking if I could hook them up with the iOS 9 Beta. Of course, I’m happy to oblige. A day or two later, I’m swarmed by the same friends asking how they can go back to iOS 8.3.
After spending those couple days with the first iOS 9 beta, they usually make the choice to wait until the final release in mid-September. Sometimes, they want the public beta, because if Apple releases a public beta, well, Apple would never steer you wrong, right?

You No Longer Need an Xbox Music Pass to Use Xbox Music on iOS and Android

We’ve been waiting for this. After all, it was just crazy. Last holiday season, Microsoft had a bunch of Xbox Music deals. I bought a ton of entire albums for just $0.99. Then, I went to my iPhone 6 to play them through the Xbox Music app and…sorry, this app requires an Xbox Music Pass.
Well no more! We knew it was coming, as the new Phone Companion app in Windows 10 showed it. The big feature here is that Xbox Music now plays the music you have stored in your OneDrive, so you can throw any MP3s in there that you want. It will play it.

Apple Releases iOS 9 Beta 3, Includes News App

Finally, the long and hard wait is over. For anyone that uses developer betas, you know that the first four weeks following WWDC is hard. Now that iOS 9 Beta 3 is available, it should actually function like an iPhone. It also contains Apple’s new News app.
iOS 9 Beta 3 comes alongside Xcode 7 Beta 3, Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan Beta 3, and WatchOS 2 Beta 3. I think it’s fair to expect the public iOS 9 beta to begin by the end of the week of the beginning of next week.

Why I Switched from iPhone 6 to a Windows Phone

This post is sort of inspired by a post I saw in Lumia Conversations. It’s about a man who bought the “much hyped” iPhone 6, it “didn’t do it for him” and he ended up buying a Nokia Lumia 930 after five months for the various reasons that someone might want a Windows Phone.
Here’s the thing. I can’t say the iPhone 6 didn’t do anything for me. I loved my iPhone 6. I still do.
There’s something that you’re going to have to keep in mind when you read this. I get to use every phone that comes out; however, ask any tech reviewer what phone he uses and there’s always one that’s his daily driver. That’s what we’re talking about here.
Over the last eight months that I’ve owned the iPhone 6, I’ve regularly told people that, as someone who gets to try every phone that comes out, I thought it was the best phone on the U.S. market. The best phone globally was the Nokia Lumia 930, but alas, they don’t sell the Nokia Lumia 930 in the United States.
