My two weeks with the Nokia Lumia 735 will be coming to a close within a few days; however, it just wouldn’t be a round of camera comparisons if I didn’t compare it to the iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 is renowned for having one of the best smart phone cameras in the industry in both the rear and the front.
To go off topic from the camera for a moment, the Nokia Lumia 735 shares a certain feel with the iPhone 6. It has that feel where it’s just feels too light and comfortable in your hand for it to be a real phone; however, I can assure you, they are both real phones.

I’ve been spending some time with the Nokia Lumia 735, as many of you know. It uses a 6.7 MP rear camera with a Carl Zeiss lens. It’s one of the rare Lumia cameras that have a Carl Zeiss lens but it is not Pureview. Here’s the interesting thing about it. Pureview is Nokia’s (and now Microsoft’s) technology that takes a higher resolution image and oversamples it down to a lower resolution, typically 5 MP.
Because of that, I thought it would be interesting to compare the Nokia Lumia 735 to the Nokia Lumia 1020. We have one that uses a 6.7 MP rear camera with a Carl Zeiss lens and the other has a 41 MP Pureview camera with a Carl Zeiss lens and oversamples it down to 5 MP. Let’s see if we can spot a difference here.

This comparison is actually a request, although it would have come eventually anyway. The Nokia Lumia 735 and the Amazon Fire Phone are two of the three phones that I am reviewing right now. The Amazon Fire Phone actually came out pretty similar to the Nokia Lumia 830, so it seemed fair to compare it to the Nokia Lumia 735.
I have always been a fan of the Amazon Fire Phone. I think it’s an innovative phone that didn’t get the credit it deserved. I am also more impressed with the mid-range Nokia Lumia 735 than I rightfully should be. It’s super light and it follows a sleek design language.

Anyone who follows For the Love of Tech, or hell, anyone in the OnePlus forums knows that I love my OnePlus One. They might also know that I’m on a personal mission to find the perfect picture taken with that phone. After all, it’s a wonderful phone but it’s not really a wonderful camera. This is my 22nd camera comparison with the OnePlus One and I have tried all sorts of different settings: Auto, HDR, Smart Scene, Clear Image, and more. When I realized that the OnePlus One uses the same sensor as the Nexus 6, I tried the Google Camera app, which obtained significantly better results. That’s what I’ll be using for the purposes of this comparison.
The Nokia Lumia 735 was Microsoft’s first phone to use a 5 MP front facing camera. In fact, for a brand that is so camera focused, it is the first time they focused on the front camera at all. I have long considered the OnePlus One’s 5 MP front camera to be one of the best on the market. I’m excited to see how they compare.

Ever since I received the Microsoft Lumia 535, the masses have been crying out, “Do a comparison with the Nokia Lumia 735! I will give you my kidney if my first born child is not enough!” Being that I am such a stand up gentlemen, I said that no kidneys or first born children will be necessary. You see, I’m a giver, and I have no need for a third kidney.
The reason that people were asking for this comparison is because the Microsoft Lumia 535 and the Nokia Lumia 735 are the only two Lumias to use Microsoft’s brand spanking new 5 MP front camera. I call it the Nokia trade-off. You can either get the Lumia 830 which uses a 10 MP Pureview rear camera or you can get the Lumia 735 which uses a 5 MP front camera, but you can’t have both. Unfortunately, it’s looking like I won’t be able to do a comparison of the Lumia 735 and the Lumia 830 as many requested.
