I’m almost done putting the HTC Desire 820 through the rounds for the camera comparisons. You may have noticed that I’ve been focusing more on the HTC Desire 820 instead of the Microsoft Lumia 535 and the Amazon Fire Phone. That’s because I have to give this one back.
HTC and Sony both make great smart phone cameras; however, they do it in different ways. HTC saturates the image, using their ultrapixel technology. This is why the HTC One M8 gets by with a 4 MP rear camera. Sony uses a 20.7 MP camera; however, in most situations, it only uses 8 MP.

I have been using the HTC Desire 820 for about a week now and I’m pretty impressed with it. It has a great camera, super fast for 13 MP, the front facing camera is probably in the top five of all smart phones, and it’s a fast phone. I thought that it’s about time to compare it to the iPhone 6.
I am looking forward to doing this comparison because they are both great cameras and in similar ways. I wouldn’t say that the HTC Desire 820 or the iPhone 6 are the perfect smart phone cameras for professional photography, but they’re both great if you’re just going to post your photo to Facebook or Instagram.

I have been spending a week now with the HTC Desire 820 and I am pretty impressed with it. I actually like it better than the HTC Desire Eye. It has a lower resolution display powered by a better GPU. Also, it uses an 8 MP front camera, allowing to make it normal size instead of the monster they used on the HTC Desire Eye.
The time has come to compare the HTC Desire 820 to the OnePlus One, one of the hottest phones of 2014. This came as no surprise as the OnePlus One uses top of the line specs and they sell the phone for half the price as their competitors do. My predictions for this comparison is that the HTC Desire 820 will win the rear camera, as the OnePlus One tends to take photos that look washed out; however, the front camera is a toss up.

HTC is always on the cutting edge of new technologies. They made the first Android phone. They were the first to use a high resolution front facing camera. In fact, they were the first to use a reasonable resolution in the front camera. They were the first to use a flash on the front camera. They were the first to put speakers on the front of the phone.
Both the HTC Desire 820 and the Nokia Lumia 830 are mid-range devices, although the Nokia Lumia 830 uses a Snapdragon 400, which straddles the low end of the mid-range and the HTC Desire 820 uses the 64 bit Snapdragon 615, which holds the high end of the mid-range. They both have fantastic cameras. Read on.

The HTC Desire 820 is the first 64 bit Android phone. There is just one problem: the OS that it runs on only supports 32 bit. It has still not received Lollipop. Of course, since I have received the device, I can’t find a way to check for updates. In fact, when I turn the device off, if I put it on the charger, it gives me a disclaimer about how this software is only for development purposes and can’t be shared with anyone, but I digress.
I am looking forward to comparing the HTC Desire 820 to HTC’s flagship, the HTC One M8. When I compared the HTC Desire Eye to the HTC One M8, I found that the HTC Desire Eye saturates the image like the HTC One M8 does but without the limitations that come with a 4 MP rear camera. Like the HTC Desire Eye, the HTC Desire 820 uses a 13 MP rear camera but unlike the HTC Desire Eye, it does not have a flash on the front camera, which is 8 MP.
