Recently, I received the LG Lancet to review. It’s LG’s first attempt at a Windows Phone since Windows Phone 7. Well, let’s just say it’s LG’s first attempt at a modern Windows Phone.
So far, I’ve been pretty impressed with the LG Lancet. My first instinct was to compare it to the Microsoft Lumia 735. After all, those are Verizon’s two mid-range Windows Phones. As it turns out, the LG Lancet blows away the Lumia 735 in benchmarks, but not much else. Battery tests weren’t great, nor was the camera, which might not have been fair, considering how stellar the Lumia 735 camera is (first phone to have an f/1.9 aperture. That’s right, Galaxy S6 fans).

Currently, Verizon sells two Windows Phones. Well, in the mid-range. They still sell the HTC One M8 for Windows. You can still find a Nokia Lumia Icon in some places, both of which are amazing phones.
But we have two brand new Windows Phones on Verizon now, the Microsoft Lumia 735 and the LG Lancet. The phones are very similar in that they use similar chipsets and have the same RAM and storage. They’re different since the Lumia 735 has a camera with better specs and the Lancet has a 64 bit processor, but we’ll get to that later.
I’m extremely excited about the LG Lancet. It’s LG’s first try at Windows Phone since Windows Phone 7 and so far, I think they’ve done a pretty good job.

NOTE: I wrote this a long time ago when I was reviewing the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL. I found it in my drafts and thought I’d publish it.
You may be noticing that I’m comparing the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL to flagship devices. Actually, I started by comparing it to the Nokia Lumia 635, while piling on the Nokia Lumia 1320 and Lumia 830. The purpose of this was to show how superior the Lumia 640 XL is to its predecessors. The camera is, by all rights, a flagship camera. The next comparison was with the iPhone 6 and now, the LG G Flex 2.
The LG G Flex 2 was a camera that I just fell in love with. In fact, the LG G Flex 2 was a phone that I fell in love with. The curved display combined with the laser focused camera made up a stunning device. It’s honestly one of the best devices I’ve ever used.

I’ve finally received my LG Lancet. I have to say, I’m always really excited to review a non-Lumia Windows Phone. Lumia has this reputation as being the “real” Windows Phone and it’s not true. In fact, that reputation hurts Windows Phone as a whole.
This is LG’s first Windows Phone, so it’s always very exciting to see a new entry into the Windows Phone world.
I also really like to see the camera apps that these guys use. HTC and Samsung make their own camera apps, as does Microsoft; however, smaller companies such as Yezz and Blu use the stock Camera app. I was curious to see what LG had in store.
Have a look.

The LG Lancet is official, as Verizon Wireless adds to its Windows Phone lineup with this as well as the Microsoft Lumia 735 which is coming soon.
The LG Lancet uses a 1.2 GHz quad core processor, a 4.5″ 480p display, an 8 MP rear camera, and a VGA front camera. It will be the first Windows Phone on Verizon to use Advanced Calling 1.0, allowing the consumer to enjoy HD voice calls with other compatible Verizon phones. The LG Lancet also is XLTE compatible.

Last week, we saw that a long rumored LG Windows Phone had surfaced on LG’s open source page. Today, WMPowerUser is reporting that we know even more about the device, including specs, as well as a name, the LG Lancet.
Like just about all phones that are sold by Verizon and not made by Samsung, HTC, or Apple, it’s exclusive to Verizon. The LG Lancet will use the same display as the Nokia Lumia 635, a 4.5″ 480p TFT LCD, which is disappointing.
The thing that’s not disappointing is that we are seeing yet another Windows Phone using the 64 bit quad core Snapdragon 410 processor, a processor that we’ve yet to see from Microsoft in the Lumia line.

A Windows Phone released by LG has been rumored for a long time. After all, their absence is noted. It is fairly well known that companies like HTC, Samsung, and other Android OEMs manufacture Windows Phones as a way to offset Android licensing fees that they would otherwise have to pay to Microsoft.
We knew why there was no Motorola Windows Phone, since up until recently, they were owned by Google. LG was just sort of mysteriously missing.
