That’s right. Sony is building a Sony Store underwater. The underwater Xperia Aquatech Store will be in Dubai, open for 3 days, and only be open to invitees. Of course, Sony’s phones are waterproof, so I guess they are trying to show that their stores are waterproof too.
Sony is providing diving lessons, as customers will have to scuba to get to the underwater Xperia Aquatech Store. The store is only 4 meters deep, so it stands to reason that any normal swimmer could swim down there; however, the customer is going to either need to win a contest, be a VIP, or otherwise be chosen by Sony. Sound familiar OnePlus fans?
Of course, Sony’s waterproof phones are only waterproof up to 1.5 meters under fresh water. It stands to reason that the jellyfish shaped Sony Store will be filled with air, rather than keeping the phones under so much water simply to prove that they are waterproof.
The invite method certainly worked for OnePlus in marketing their OnePlus One. The OnePlus One has been one of the most popular phones that was released this year despite all of the marketing disasters created by OnePlus.
Sony could very possibly have gotten this idea directly from OnePlus. It is very similar and it worked for them. The Sony Xperia Z3 is one of the best phones on the market at the moment, along with the OnePlus One and the Moto X; however, they have failed to pick up momentum in the United States and other regions. Hopefully this will help.
